iPhone – Rejecting Wintel mobo bug squeezed

The two Mother board manufacturer giants has joined their hands to defeat the problem of preventing certain Wintel mobos from talking to the iPhone. They have designed BIOS updates to eradicate the bug.Recently, it was reported that some motherboards based on the Intel IP55 Express chipset were exhibiting problems when attempting to sync with Apple’s iPhone while running Windows 7  64-bit. To set right this problem Gigabyte has released its new version of BIOS for their GA-P55 series motherboards between November 6 and 9 and those versions can be downloaded.

The original problem was discovered during the Apple discussion forum and posters reported that Gigabyte BIOS update is the best trump card to solve the problem. The other two posters also noted that the latest BIOS updates for their Asus P7P55D and Maximus III Formula motherboards also turned the ploy. Finally, the problem is now being solved for motherboards manufactured by Gigabyte and Asus. But MSI didn’t immediately respond to the request for information on BIOS fixes for their P55-based products. Similarly Intel recommends its end users to ensure that whether they have latest BIOS and driver updates from their system and motherboard vendors to solve P55 Express problem.

N. American DSL market overshadowed by international declines

BOSTON, USA: Ovum today announced its preliminary quarterly results for global 3Q09 DSL and CMTS port shipments.
“Double-digit declines in international DSL markets outweighed North American growth (especially VDSL2) in 3Q09.The continuing impact of recessionary conditions worldwide exacerbated the seasonal third-quarter dip” said Ovum Analyst Kamalini Ganguly.
“However, continuing DOCSIS 3.0 rollouts and demand for downstream bandwidth contributed to strong downstream shipment growth in all CMTS markets, particularly outside North America.”
